testimonials
"Emily is an extraordinarily talented and dedicated speech therapist. I am grateful for all of her contributions and unwavering support.”
"Emily is very experienced, comes up with appropriate programs that keep pushing [my child] forward, and is generally a lovely person with whom it is a pleasure to work."
"I have recommended her to several of my "special needs mom friends" and would recommend her to anyone looking to see their child progress in speech."
“Emily has been my son's speech therapist for a cumulative seven years - first, at one school, then after several years, at a second school. In both places, she's been able to focus on my son's strengths while targeting the places he needs improvement. My son is autistic and when she first started working with him, he could barely string two words together. At this point, he is able to hold a simple conversation with some prompting. This was no easy feat! Through the years, I will say what has most impressed me about Emily was her ability to work with my son on zoom through the pandemic. She was quick to employ a number of techniques through video conferencing that kept him engaged for the entire session. No other teacher or therapist was able to accomplish what she did! Overall, Emily has been great at communicating with me and with his teachers, thoughtful in her techniques, and always joyful in her sessions with my son. I highly recommend her.”
“Emily is both patient and professional [my daughter] looked forward to her weekly sessions determined to read and work on communication stones. Watching my daughter learn to start and work towards the end of a conversation brought joy to my heart.”
“Emily has been a gift to our family. She worked with our non-verbal and autistic son when he was barely 3 years old and within months he was speaking. She is truly gifted in her craft and I would recommend her to any family that feels and knows their child needs an extra push in the speech world.”
“Emily has been truly amazing for our 3 years old daughter. Before working with Emily, our daughter could speak but did not use the words to communicate at all. Working with Emily, first our daughter started using words to communicate what she wanted to eat. Then, she learned to say hi and bye. Recently, she started to use more phrases and also started to answer some questions from us. The progress our daughter has made in just six months with Emily has been just incredible. Emily is such a patient, kind and fun teacher. Our daughter immediately warmed up to her and literally jumped in joy every time Emily visited us. Emily's success with our daughter made us the parents to seek out more help and therapies for our daughter. Emily has truly changed our daughter's life, and we feel so lucky to have met Emily.”
“Emily is an excellent speech teacher. I wish we met her sooner. Emily has a variety of toys and strategies that make learning fun, intriguing, and not overwhelming for the child and parent. My grandson always looked forward to her classes and still sings her songs. My grandson has developed a huge amount of vocabulary in a short period of time thanks to Emily. It’s hard to find great teachers especially for special needs children and Emily is one of those great teachers.”
“We have had a terrific experience working with Emily. She is so personable and warm that [my son] took to her immediately and never dislikes attending sessions with her. She keeps him engaged in fun activities throughout our whole Zoom session, and even caters the activities to his special interests. Since starting speech therapy with Emily, everyone in the family, as well as [his] teachers at school noticed great improvement in his clarity and pronunciation. We are so happy we were referred to Emily and grateful to her for making such a difference in [his] life!”
“My experience with Emily was simply amazing. My daughter loved working with Emily and always looked forward to her scheduled sessions. I highly recommend her!”

Emily has been a practicing Speech-Language Pathologist for over thirteen years. She began her career in New York City after graduating with her Masters from Emerson College in Boston, where she gained unique clinical skills in the areas of feeding and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Emily has worked with a variety of clients, from toddlers to adults, including eight years working at two Manhattan private schools for students with autism. Through these experiences, Emily has honed her skills for supporting clients with feeding disorders, speech and language delays and impaired social skills. Her primary goal is to increase her student’s abilities to communicate and interact with the world around them. In 2019, she founded Communicating Together Speech Pathology, LLC. Emily believes that the responsibility of communication not only depends on the student, but also on their communication partner; therefore, collaboration with a child’s family is the key to success. Learning to communicate effectively is hard work, but when we are Communicating Together, the work becomes fun!

FAQ
What are the benefits of therapy?
Speech-language therapy helps improve a child’s ability to speak, understand language and use language effectively. Learning a few techniques during therapy can impact a child’s ability to communicate with the world around them, reducing frustration and building confidence. The earlier treatment begins, the better chance the child has of improving their speech and language. My goal is to teach children and families the skills they need to succeed.
how long will my child need therapy?
The length of service depends on a child’s diagnosis, but in most cases, therapy occurs for a few months-years. My goal is to give you and your child the techniques and tools to support them in their lives without the need for ongoing therapy.
do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, so I do not accept insurance directly. However, I will provide you with an invoice that you can submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursement.
how do I know if my child needs therapy?
Speech therapists look at communication milestones and other factors to determine a child’s needs for services. If your child has not met the milestones typical for their age, they may be a candidate for therapy. I am happy to provide guidance and answer any questions.
what role does the family play?
The goal of speech-language therapy is to equip your child with the skills they need to overcome their difficulties and become a successful communicator. Doing this also requires the help of families and caregivers, to learn ways to support and assist your child at home and in the community. The more help each child receives, and the more time they spend working on their speech and language goals, the more likely they will be to make progress.
